The feature enables seamless and accurate document capture using machine learning and computer vision. It automatically detects document edges, adjusts focus, and enhances clarity, ensuring high-quality scans. Using OpenCV and TensorFlow, the system applies real-time edge detection and adaptive thresholding, minimizing errors from poor lighting or angles. Similar to mobile check deposit apps, it instantly captures documents when optimal positioning is detected. This feature eliminates manual adjustments, improves eTMF compliance, and accelerates document processing, enhancing user efficiency.

AI-Powered Document Detection

The feature ensures that captured documents meet eTMF quality standards through machine learning-based image processing. Using OpenCV and TensorFlow, it automatically enhances document clarity by adjusting brightness, contrast, and reducing noise. AI-driven auto-correction detects and fixes blurriness, ensuring legibility. Adaptive thresholding optimizes text visibility in varying lighting conditions. Before submission, a real-time quality check alerts users if an image fails compliance, prompting retakes. This feature guarantees high-quality document scans, improving accuracy and regulatory compliance.

AI-Enhanced Image Quality Optimization

The feature ensures secure, role-specific access to eTMF functionalities based on user permissions. We implemented granular access control, allowing CRAs, project managers, and TMF leads to perform only their designated tasks. Using JWT-based authentication and OAuth, the system verifies user roles upon login and restricts access to sensitive data accordingly. Encryption and audit trails track user actions, ensuring compliance with 21 CFR Part 11. This feature enhances security, data integrity, and workflow efficiency, preventing unauthorized document modifications while maintaining seamless collaboration.

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)

The feature ensures that all captured documents are instantly and securely uploaded to the eTMF system without being stored on the device. Using AES-256 encryption for data at rest and TLS 1.2/1.3 for data transmission, we protected sensitive clinical trial documents from unauthorized access. The system integrates real-time validation to ensure documents meet compliance standards before submission. Automatic retry mechanisms handle network failures, guaranteeing seamless uploads. This feature enhances data security, compliance with 21 CFR Part 11, and improves efficiency for study teams.

Secure Cloud-Based Document Upload

The feature ensures smooth performance across iOS 10.3+ devices, including older models like iPhone 5S. We optimized the app using Swift and Objective-C, implementing adaptive UI elements to maintain responsiveness across different screen sizes. To enhance performance, we used lightweight libraries and reduced memory consumption. Feature detection ensures advanced functions like Face ID® are only enabled on supported devices, while fallback options like PIN-based authentication maintain usability. This optimization guarantees seamless functionality, faster load times, and extended device support.

Implementing AI-driven document detection

We integrated machine learning and computer vision techniques to ensure accurate recognition and capture. We trained a model on diverse document samples, enabling it to detect edges, adjust lighting, and auto-crop images in real time. OpenCV and TensorFlow were used to enhance accuracy, ensuring documents were properly aligned before submission. We implemented adaptive thresholding and image preprocessing to handle varying lighting conditions. AI-powered validation also ensured each scanned document met eTMF quality standards, improving efficiency and compliance.

Ensuring captured documents met eTMF quality standards

We implemented AI-driven image enhancement and real-time validation. Using OpenCV and TensorFlow, we applied adaptive thresholding, noise reduction, and contrast adjustments to improve readability. We integrated real-time edge detection and perspective correction to auto-align skewed documents before conversion to PDF. Additionally, AI-based quality checks verified resolution, clarity, and completeness before submission. If an image failed to meet standards, users received instant feedback to retake the scan, ensuring compliance with eTMF regulations.

Secure Storage and Transmission

We implemented AES-256 encryption for data at rest and TLS 1.2/1.3 encryption for data in transit. Documents were uploaded directly to the eTMF cloud without being stored locally on the device, preventing unauthorized access. We integrated role-based access control (RBAC) to restrict access to sensitive files based on user permissions. Additionally, automatic session timeouts and biometric authentication (Face ID & Touch ID) enhanced security. Regular penetration testing and compliance audits ensured adherence to 21 CFR Part 11 and industry security standards.

Biometric Authentication Issues

We implemented Face ID® and Touch ID® with fallback mechanisms for broader device compatibility. We used Apple’s Secure Enclave to encrypt biometric data, ensuring it was never stored externally. For devices that lacked biometric support, we integrated a PIN-based authentication system as a backup. We also optimized authentication timeout settings to balance security and usability while complying with 21 CFR Part 11 regulations. Extensive testing on multiple iOS versions ensured seamless login, preventing failed authentications and enhancing the overall user experience.
